Biscuits with toasted whole almonds
Quaresimali are crunchy biscuits with an elongated shape belonging to the Sicilian tradition, typical of the Lenten period.
Their origin is strongly linked to the Christian religion, in fact, being made simply with almonds, sugar and egg whites, they were consumed by believers so as not to break the rigid religious dictates typical of the pre-Easter period, when the consumption of milk, lard or egg yolks was forbidden.
