Federico's Oranges
The Fidanza Federico farm was born in the Sicilian territory, precisely in Ribera (Ag). The area is highly suited for the production of citrus fruits, but the excellence in goodness and tasting peculiarities must be attributed to the oranges, the early ripening Naveline and the Washington Navel. The plant must be treated carefully without the use of chemical pesticides to maintain the quality of the fruit that the consumer finds when tasting it. In this regard, our company is based on integrated pest management which consists in the use of:
Hormone trap to combat the Mediterranean fly
Adalia Bipuntata, a voracious ladybug that fights aphids and other leaf climbers
Swirski Line, predatory insect for thrips and scale insects
Non-toxic glue chromotropic trap
Ladybug Thea used against powdery mildew (POWDERY MILDEW)
The properties of oranges are many: not only is it rich in vitamin C, but it also contains potassium, magnesium, vitamin A and B6, and folic acid.
From the constant work that we put in place daily to guarantee a quality product, our company has launched a new project. It is about giving life to the fruit, already excellent in its natural state, transforming it into Orange Juice and Orange Marmalade. Both are characterized by innovation and a careful study to avoid the volatility of the aforementioned properties and using a method that avoids the oxidation of the product without adding colorants or preservatives and maintaining as the only raw material the Oranges, strictly of our own production.
The juice has as its only ingredients: 100% Ribera oranges, sugar (in minimal quantities to maintain its conservation) and lemon juice.
The jam instead is composed of 64% Ribera oranges, sugar, lemon juice, gelling agent (pectin). Furthermore, its consistency is based on orange juice and orange puree which make it spreadable, without chunks and with a very small percentage of peel that varies from 5% to 7% which does not alter its flavor, but which releases the precious essential oils it contains.
It is also important to point out that squeezed juice differs from juice precisely because of the quantity of fruit. In fact, juice contains a minimal percentage of fruit along with water, sugar and preservatives. Our squeezed juice, on the other hand, is entirely made up of 100% orange and we have deliberately avoided adding water that is already released by the fruit during squeezing. Precisely for this reason, it is possible to notice the addition or not of water just by looking at a glass of squeezed juice; if the pulp tends to stay at the bottom and the water on the surface then there is no added water, otherwise the water will tend to stay at the bottom precisely because its weight is greater than the water that the fruit releases naturally.
For both preparations, Navel, Washington Navel and Vanilla oranges are used, the latter being suitable for ensuring sweetness to the products that allow us to avoid using sweeteners and sugar in large quantities. The oranges are born from a production that has been going on for three generations and it is precisely the third generation that has developed this project to guarantee the freshness of the oranges even beyond the production period, which varies from the end of November to the end of March.
