Mandra Dairy of Mezzo - Poggioreale
Our food and wine tour in search of the true authentic and genuine flavors of Sicily took us to the center of Sicily in Poggioreale, precisely in the "Mandra di mezzo" district from which the historic dairy takes its name. It is a family-run artisan dairy that has been handed down for generations. They have their own herd of only Valle del Belice sheep, fed on pastures in the adjacent hills and use only and exclusively their milk to create a unique cheese. The real Sicilian pecorino and the famous Vastedda della Valle del Belice, produced with freshly milked raw (ie unpasteurised) milk, respecting the ancient tradition that characterizes the cheeses of this dairy. It is a product that is little known on the market but which is unrivaled in terms of quality and genuineness.
